Jan 13, 2025 at 17:27 ET: Full Moon in Punarvasu: REMEMBERING YOUR SELF

The first Full Moon of the year will be in Punarvasu, a healing degree of sidereal Gemini known as the “star of renewal” whose name in Sanskrit means “restoration” and “good again” – especially after a time of hardship. This uplifting Moon is ruled by the “professor planets” Gemini and Jupiter, suggesting we revisit and reincorporate the guidance we’ve received through our studies, meditations, and mentors as they have helped illuminate our paths in the past and will support us again on the healing journey ahead. Being in the 3rd pada, this Moon connects once more to Gemini and Jupiter in the navamsa chart, compounding the focus of going to our sources of truth, joy and inspiration. Reaching for the poetry, prose, sutras and scriptures as well as to our beloved teachers that uplift and guide us will be a recurring theme of this month and of this year, which will have some challenging moments, twists and turns in store of us (the look ahead forecast coming soon).

While Purnarvasu is a lovely sign of healing, wisdom and possibility – it is said “the sky’s the limit!” with this Vedic sign – its shadow side is to overthink and overanalyze our situations and life experiences – which can lead to stress, criticism, exhaustion and inactivity. This Full Moon highlights making efforts to heal the rift caused by overstimulation of the mind and nervous system. One way to do this is to meditate during the Brahma Muhurta “Creator’s” hours: the pre-dawn time of the day associated with Aditi, the ruling deity of this Full Moon known as the cosmic mother of the demigods. Meditating at some point during this special time of day (the 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise) is said to help us peacefully undo trauma in our lives (see article below). Purposefully giving ourselves this gentle yet powerful healing space in our waking hours each day will bring wonderful support to our morning routine that can have massive ripple effects in our lives.

Some things to consider:
Punarvasu’s symbol is the arrow and the quiver: the arrow shows the importance of “journeying” while the quiver highlights returning “home.”

  • What’s part of your journey right now? Physical? Emotional? Spiritual? Financial? Professional? Etc…

  • What direction do you want to shoot your arrows? This month? This year?

  • What feels like home for you?

  • What feels distracting and overstimulating for you? Is this taking you away from your true Self?

  • What teachers or teachings have been supportive of you in the past?

  • What ideas, plans or personal practices from the past are ready to be revisited and acted upon?

    ::PEACE::
