Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse Tuesday, Nov. 8, 6:02 a.m. eastern time in sidereal Aries, Bharani:
We are all doulas now / What is yours to carry and what you must lay to rest
There will be a FULL MOON TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE in Bharani, a powerful degree of sidereal Aries whose name means “the bearer.” When Bharani appears in the sky, as it has for much of the year via Rahu and is now mega-spotlighted with this eclipse, we are being offered the opportunity for massive renewal. But this doesn’t come without friction and painful release. Bharani afterall is ruled by Yama, the god of death, and its symbol is the yoni/vulva: every birth is a death and every death is a birth. The sign of this eclipse is virtuous, deep, and like any pregnancy or (birth or death) doula, it is a powerful force. Death and birth are meant to be the most private events on the planet, and yet are always the most impactful, feared and celebrated.
This eclipse is complex and has multiple planets with opposing energies at play. This Moon is connecting with Rahu, Saturn and Uranus*. Rahu and Uranus both want to be expressive and expansive but can bring the unexpected, the inexplicable, and even break-throughs. They carry with them an underlying tension, one that wants a rebellion to be unleashed. Saturn, on the other hand, enforces limitations and prefers we take things slowly and methodically. These energies are clearly at odds.
Thankfully, one of the greatest benefits of this particular Moon is that it sits in the “3rd pada” of the sign, making it a helper Moon who strives for harmony and to truly support those in its sphere. Moreover, these very specific “pada” degrees have an extra Venus rulership (Bharani is already ruled by Mars and Venus). This puts a double emphasis on Venus, bringing our focus to our relationships and the responsibility we have to others - especially to women. On top of all of this, we have 4 other planets in Libra (Venus’ sign) which are all influencing this eclipse Moon, giving more power to Venus.
We are all being annointed doulas in this eclipse. One potential gift is we can all uncover new ways to stay steady and grounded in the face of what seems to be impossible. But as with all births/deaths, there is a level of surrender that comes in and empowers us in ways we never thought possible. We must to look at what is complete in our lives and ask ourselves: What we are ready to put down so we can pick up what we have vowed to help carry forward?
While eclipses are intense astrological events and can bring chaos and send out shockwaves, the influence of Saturn and especially Venus are strong with this eclipse. They are working hard to keep peace so progress can be the result.
Some ideas to ponder:
•What areas are in need of transformation, birthing or renewal?
•Can you be present and hold space?
•What do you want to create?
•Do you need support in your birthing process?
•How are your key relationships?
•What feels out of control and could benefit from structure?
•What is yours to carry?
•What can you no longer bear?
*The outer planets are not traditionally used in Jyotish, but since Uranus is sitting 1° away from the Moon and 3° from Rahu, it is important to include it in this eclipse analysis. Uranus is also in the 3rd pada of Bharani, adding more emphasis to the Venus aspect of this eclipse.
