Feb 12, 2025 at 8:53am ET Full Moon in sidereal Cancer in Ashlesha: Sea Change Coming

This Full Moon is in a powerful and fierce degree of sidereal Cancer called “Ashlesha,” meaning “embrace” or “intertwine” in Sanskrit. Its symbol is the coiled serpent, representing the mythical Nagas: the half-human/half-serpent beings said to have rejuvenative, magical and even manipulative powers. Ruled by the Moon and Mercury, this Ashlesha Full Moon empowers us to connect our hearts and minds, embrace our deep feelings and authentic voices, and to get out of our own way so we can speak the Truth that flows through each of us. Being connected to the serpent and the kundalini, this Full Moon asks us to unravel what’s stuck and stifling, and to shed any old skins inhibiting us from being in deep alignment. We are being pushed to show up as our true Selves, even if it scares us - even if it ruffles a few feathers.

There’s an added intensity to this Full Moon because of the special degrees it’s in. These gandanta/sandhi bridging degrees signify that old ways of being, thinking, feeling and expressing are ending, and that it’s time to release what has been holding us back. In addition to the pressure we feel from the sensitive degrees, this Full Moon is also connecting to intense and chaotic Rahu, which can leave us feeling overwhelmed, overloaded, exhausted, spun out. But Rahu’s influence, if grounded and focused, can help us to be fearless, to think outside the box and step into our authenticity in ways we haven’t before. Connected to our karma, Rahu pushes us “to just do it.”

This Full Moon feels like a soft entry to the upcoming changes we will encounter come eclipse season (March) and other big planetary shifts in May. Take the opportunity now to really look at what is ending for you and what is opening up. This sea change is not easy and takes a lot of courage. Remember: the sign Cancer is a caretaker and a nurturer, so lean into the maternal inclinations it’s offering this Full Moon.

Some things to consider:

-What is changing in your life?

-How do you feel each day?

-Are you comfortable speaking up?

-Are you biting your tongue?

-Are you standing in your authenticity, in your truth, in your genius zone?

-Are you comfortable expressing yourself?

-What changes would happen in your life if you stepped into your power and became as magnetic as you are capable of being?

-What are you doing to ground yourself in this time of change? This Full Moon encourages self care, simple and nourishing food, journaling, and breathwork that helps connect heart and mind.
