NEW MOON in SHATASBHISHAK: What Needs Healing?

The New Moon today, Feb 27, 2025 at 19:44pm eastern time, comes along in a powerful degree of sidereal Aquarius called Shatabhishak, “the hundred physicians” ruled by Varuna, the god of the cosmic order, and brings about a healing crisis - not necessarily an illness - in order to unearth the deeper karmas ready to be purged. It forces us to make changes, often to our lifestyle and mindset, to support the pending transformation. When this sign is prominent in the sky like it is now with the New Moon (a time when we get to intentionally plant seeds), it asks us to look to what is in need of healing, both personally and globally.

As the New Moon sits with Saturn, Shatabhishak’s ruling planet, it urges us to take stock of our routines and practices – especially those that support our mental health and our nervous systems. Saturn likes to reach to actions that are tried and true, that are easy to access, implement and sustain. Even small additions or adjustments, if consistent, can make a big difference.

Rahu, the New Moon’s other ruler, likes to turn to alternative/ancestral modalities to keep the energy moving: things that might not be mainstream yet, like subtle therapies, bodywork and breathwork. Since Rahu is sitting with Venus and Mercury, working with the body in two ways will be especially helpful: connecting with the skin (Venus) through abhyanga (Ayurvedic massage), or with the breath (Mercury) through pranayama (intentional breathwork). One reminds us of our “home” in our physical bodies while the other fills us up. Both are incredibly grounding. (scroll down for how to: https://www.lexneon.com/resources)

With intensity approaching with the eclipses, the New Moon encourages us to do the deeper uncovering now, and to also stay grounded, nourish our bodies and minds, seek out healing expressions and put them into play. It reminds us that we don’t need to make grand gestures to have an impact, but we do need to show up consistently. And remember: the remedies don’t have to be strictly medicine to be medicinal; they just need to help you feel safe, sane and steady.

Some questions to consider:

·       What is asking to shift or be healed?

·       What karmas are being unearthed for you?

·       What modalities or routines that you’ve implemented before can you reach to now?

·       What feels a little challenging, but you’re being drawn to do? What simple structures can do put into place to make this easier to manage?

·       What feels like the most sustainable and effective actions right now? For you? For your community?

·       Are you able to commit to small actions daily/weekly?

·       Does this time feel loaded with karma for you? Around what exactly?
