Ketu and Dogs

Did you know that feeding dogs is a classic text remedy to appease Ketu? While the text says to feed street dogs, it can’t hurt to do this with the lucky strays that end up as our beloved pets, like my little guy here. It’s said dogs are great companions for humans on our spiritual journeys, as they help to increase our compassion, kindness and sense of service.

Ketu (the south node of the moon) can be a tricky planetary energy to manage. It connects to our past life karma and gifts, experiences and connections with people. It’s our intuition and our knowing that we can sometimes question. When it’s prominent in our lives, we can experience deeper intuition and even enlightenment. It makes us let go, sometimes through actual loss, sometimes through spiritual transcendence. Either way, we have to drop into a place of trust within ourselves and the path we are on, to recognize the karma is up, and be willing to release. Not easy as Ketu’s shadow side can show up as feeling lost, confused, disconnected and in a fog. Doubt and uncertainty can be prominent when we’re working out our karma with Ketu.

Here’s where our sweet pups come in. They are a constant source of unconditional love, joy, support and excitement. They pick up on the vibes right away, and they know just what we need and when we need it. By “serving” them, we are able to get out of our own way and put their needs before our own. They are steady and do not leave our sides - something Ketu needs. And their enthusiasm and love for us can’t be beat. Can you imagine how much better the world would be if we all greeted each other the way our dogs greet us when we come home?

If you’re feeling any of the challenging aspects of Ketu, consider feeding dogs. If you’re privileged enough to live in a place without strays roaming the streets, donate food to your local shelter. If you have a dog in your home, spend some more time with them and see how you feel. There are plenty of studies that show living with pets decrease cortisol levels and increase our microbiome diversity… now you can add planetary remedy to the list.
