Full Moon in sidereal Leo in Purva Phalguni: Connection, Celebration and the Vagus Nerve
The Full Moon will be in Purva Phalguni, a beautiful degree of sidereal Leo on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 7:41am eastern time. This sign loves celebrations and recognizes the healing effect connecting has. This Full Moon wants us to get dressed up and go out, reminding us that revitalization that comes from letting our inner light shine, in celebrating ourselves and our relationships to each other and to nature. Purva Phalguni encourages us to go out and enjoy the beauty of this world that we can experience through our bodies. Its symbol is the hammock or the marriage bed, and is connected to Bhaga, the god of good fortune, and to the Shiva Lingam, reinforcing the importance of rest and intimacy.
This particular Moon however is unsupported – meaning it’s sitting alone in the chart so can feel misunderstood and even lonely. It’s also making connections with some of the tougher “take action now” planets. While we may not be able to fully celebrate the way we and this Moon may like, the planetary configurations are giving us a push to give it a go anyway. They’re encouraging us to add celebration to our daily routine: more dance, music, and singing along to our favorite tunes or mantras. We are being nudged to look for joy every day, and to incorporate activities that create a feeling of being more aligned and connected – not only to our partners and to nature, but to our internal world and our bodies. Meeting with friends, spending time in nature, resting while taking time away from work and screens, and playing are all encouraged this Full Moon. In fact, Purva Phalguni loves the opportunity to get glammed up and sparkle, and wants us to embrace this the next lunar cycle!
When you look at the recommendations this sign and Full Moon suggest, they are similar to the same things that support the health and tone of the vagus nerve: the “wandering nerve” that is the longest nerve and the main nerve of the parasympathetic system. It travels from the brain to the gut, and connects each internal organ in the body. When we do things to support the vagus nerve (all the ideas above and others like cold water immersion, deep breathing, gargling and… laughing!), we help strengthen our internal organs and boost our immunity as the vagus nerve is directly connected to decreased inflammation. While many doctors won’t tell a patient to go dancing, get into nature, sing, hum or engage in other vagus nerve activities, they certainly ought to as these are directly related to increased health, wellness and most importantly, to joy.
This Full Moon asks us to think about our connections and our current levels of joy. What can we do to boost these up? Can we recognize that getting dressed up and going out, lounging with a loved one or spontaneously singing and dancing in the kitchen is actually just what the doctor ordered? Some questions to consider:
· What makes you joyful?
· What makes you feel connected?
· Have you lounged lately?
· What and who do you feel drawn to celebrate?
· What vagus nerve support can you bring into your life right now? Some ideas: dance and fluid movement, singing, humming, gargling, deep breathing, cold water plunging, getting into nature, connecting with loved ones,… laughing!
