Feb 9, 2024 at 5:59pm: NEW MOON in Capricorn: The Power of Rhythm

The New Moon on Feb 9, 2024 at 5:59pm eastern time will be in a degree of sidereal Capricorn called DHANISHTHA, the “star of symphony” whose names translates as ABUNDANCE, SWIFT and RICH. Its ruling planets, Mars and Saturn, are very embodied planets: Mars connects to mamsa dhatu/the muscles, and Saturn to ashthi dhatu/the bones – both of which support us in moving about our physical realm. But they differ energetically: Mars leaps into action, sometimes recklessly, while Saturn prefers a well thought out plan without risk. When they come together like they do in this New Moon, they have the chance to negotiate as a team. When we work with them in symphony, we advance quickly and efficiently, with purpose and direction. This is what this New Moon wants from us: to get clear on our service and how we will get there. Saturn likes a simple, accessible and sustainable plan written down with realistic goals and deadlines that it can hand off to eager Mars to take forward action on. As this is a big energy with these planets for the next 3 months (Moon+Mars, Moon+Saturn, Mars+Saturn each come together from now until April 25), it’s supported to take time to do this in the areas of life that are asking for attention and possible reorganization.

On the more subtle level, Dhanishtha’s ruling deities, the 8 Vasus, inspire the following qualities present in this kind and charitable New Moon sign: musical skill, confidence, stability, reliability, hard work, steady energy, intelligence, and empathy. The symbols of Dhanishtha are the drum and the flute, highlighting this sign’s deep connection with rhythm and music, reminding us of the importance of choosing wisely the “notes” we put out into the world. Our prana (our breath and voice) has immense power and the ability to travel far and wide.

The drum and flute are considered to be spiritual instruments. The flute symbolic of the shell of our bodies that gets filled with prana (then breath/ vital life force) waiting to “become music” and to share it… of the central channel (sushumna nadi) where the kundalini arises… of the 7 notes connecting to the 7 chakras. The rhythm of the drum is said to connect heaven and earth… is a guide during ceremonies for spirit and ancestors to enter and uplift… is proven to have the power to move trauma out of our systems… and has a vibration that helps to remove blockages, transcend worry and time, and bring us into the present moment.

As this New Moon is a very embodied sign and is sitting with Mars, it’s helpful to utilize the body for healing and manifestation. Consider sound therapy and rhythm to help “move the issues through the tissues” (as Dr. Lad, my Ayurvedic mentor says). Dance, dry brushing, massage, HIIT, jumping, yoga, music, kirtan, drum circles, tuning forks, gong baths are all excellent expressions during this New Moon and lunar cycle.

Some things to consider for this New Moon. These can also be helpful with the recent Mars shift:

🥁What is calling your attention? Does it feel elevated in purpose? Is it accessible? (Remember Saturn’s simplicity and Mars’ ability to take action.)

🥁Do you have a solid “to do” list to work through?

🥁What’s your timeline?

🥁Is the rhythm of your day supportive?

🥁Do you believe your voice has power?

🥁Are you being patient and persistent?

:::PEACE:::
