Reimagining the Work-Life Balance / Give and Receive Blessings of Support
The first New Moon of 2023 is in the industrious and kind sign of Uttara Ashadha, a degree of sidereal Capricorn, whose name means the “latter victor.” It is ruled by Saturn and the Sun, making it a self-starter, and by the celestial beings called the “10 Vishvadevas” whose names translate to: Goodness, Truth, Willpower, Skillfulness, Time, Desire, Firmness, Ancestors, Brightness, Peak (Acme). This New Moon reminds us of what is needed in order to achieve true success, and that we can’t get to greatness by cutting corners. Take time this New Moon and next lunar cycle to map things out. Set your goals and get dates in your calendar so you can hit your mark and keep moving forward… with one important caveat: make sure to relax.
Uttara Ashadha is symbolized by the elephant’s tusk and the planks of the bed. It has the ability to pierce to the core of an issue and to get what it’s working for. Yet it can lean into being Type A and easily overextend, and so needs to be reminded to rest and rejuvenate. This is the bigger lesson of this lunar cycle (and for 2023): while we may have motivating goals ahead, we must remember the work/life balance. Constantly going will only lead to exhaustion and burn out. Take time to rest. Better yet, schedule down time; the Saturnian rulership of this Moon would encourage us to block that off in our calendars so we aren’t always in “hustle” mode.
As we go deeper into this lunar event, we see it’s sitting in the 4th pada of the sign, ruled by Jupiter, which gives this New Moon a more spiritual and philanthropic leaning. This pada genuinely wants to do things well and in higher alignment. It also loves to support others along their paths. The New Moon is also sitting with Venus, so we have a double emphasis on our partners, as we are asked: who can we uplift and who helps us on our journeys? Offering our heartfelt gratitude for the chance to support others and also to be open for support is a beautiful opportunity and blessing of this New Moon.
